Recognizing the benefits of working together to promote the restaurant industry in Texas, 11 leading Texas restaurateurs held an organizational meeting in Dallas in September 1937. Temporary officers were elected and the Texas Restaurant Association was born.
For more than 65 years, the TRA has served its members and the foodservice industry with political advocacy, industry education and foodservice training. The association maintains its focus on supporting the business of the Texas restaurateur. This commitment results in the continued growth and effectiveness of the association.
Texas is the second largest foodservice market in the nation, with sales projected to reach $30 billion this year. The Texas Restaurant Association (TRA), which is the largest state restaurant association in the United States, represents a community of more than 5,000 foodservice professionals. The foodservice industry in Texas is dynamic and growing. It is projected that, by the year 2016, there will be more than one million foodservice jobs in the state. The phenomenal growth of the industry, combined with rising business costs and increasing threat of government regulation, makes membership in TRA a vital part of doing business.
