The Florida Restaurant Association and the Florida Lodging Association have formed an alliance. Both restaurant and lodging members are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.
There is no doubt this industry is a strong and resilient one. Despite four successive hurricanes in 2004, Florida maintained its position as the world's top travel destination with 5.2 million more visitors in 2004 than in 2003.
During the annual Governors Conference on Tourism, Governor Bush echoed the health of this industry by pointing out that it accounts for 20 percent of Florida's economy generating $3.4 billion in state sales taxes and a $57 billion economic impact. It also directly employs 912,700 Floridians making us the largest employer in the state.
It is for these and many other reasons that combining the strengths of both our organizations makes very good sense.
