The Washington Restaurant Association is a non-profit trade association formed in 1929 to represent the interests of the food service industry in Washington State. Today, the WRA has more than 4,500 members and provides a variety of educational, training, business assistance, and governmental relations services. A separate Education Foundation [50l(c)3] and for-profit Member Services Corporation also are affiliated with the WRA.
The WRA responds to member needs by providing retrospective rating, health insurance, food safety and alcohol server training programs, as well as many other business assistance programs. We also directly represent our members through lobbying efforts with the state legislature and we have one of the most sophisticated and effective grassroots lobbying organizations in the state.
Restaurants are a part of the very fabric of every community in Washington State. From sponsoring the local little league team to organizing food distribution programs, restaurants are huge contributors to every neighborhood.
Eating out is no longer a "special occasion". The average family eats at least 4 meals a week away from home. Quick service, take-out and ready-to-eat meals are the fastest growing ways for diners to eat on-the-go. The traditional café and/or in-dining establishments are seeing tremendous competition for the dining-out dollar.
